GAUTHIER, Jean-Philippe 1937-2013


It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean Gauthier on February 20, 2013; born in Montreal to the late Adrien and Celine, on April 29, 1937. Jean was the loving husband of Elsie (Chicorli) for 53 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Diane, Rick (Judy), John (Nina) and Michelle (Vic). He was the proud Grandpapa of Jennifer, Michael, Emma and Colin. He will be missed by his brothers Pierre (Therese and Family), Raymond (Ghislaine and Family) brothers-in-law James Grant and Tom Chicorli plus many nieces and nephews.

Jean was a retired defenseman who, early in his career, played for the Fort William Canadiens in 1956-57. He then went on to play in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers. He had the first penalty in The Spectrum on Oct. 19, 1967. He had the thrill of hoisting the Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1964-65 and the Memorial Cup with the Flin Flon Bombers in 1957.

A funeral mass will take place at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 2nd at St. Veronica's Parish, 1300 Carson, Dorval, QC H9S 1M6, with a visitation with the family of the deceased prior to the mass, at 11am. A celebration of Jean's life will immediately follow the funeral at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club located at 1350, ch Bord-du-Lac Lakeshore Dorval, QC H9S 2E3. Funeral direction entrusted to J.J. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at the West Island Palliative Care for their kindness shown to the entire family.
