St. Augustine Prep Shocks Delbarton stopping 37-game winning & 42-game undefeated Streaks

Junior left winger Roman Amiratto, sophomore John Stevens and goalie Joe Panalone led the No. 4 St. Augustine Prep Hermits to a stunning upset victory over heavy favored the No. 1 Delbarton Green Wave, 4-2, in the New Jersey 52nd Gordon Cup semifinal.

The Hermits snapped Delbarton’s 37-game winning & 42-game undefeated streaks in the semifinal game at Aspen Ice in Randolph, New Jersey.

“It was an absolute, all-around team effort,” said Hermits’ coach Tim Fingerhut. “As a coach, you couldn’t ask for more.

“Our guys laid it all on the line.”

Amiratto scored all four Hermit goals. Earlier in the week, in the quarterfinals Amiratto scored twice in leading the Hermits to a 6-3 win over (No. 5) Seton Hall.

Stevens, the son of former Flyers coach John Stevens, helped the team with four assists. Pantalone led Hermits at the other end of the ice, making 31 saves.

Gloucester Catholic lost to Christian Brothers Academy, 2-1.

St. Augustine Prep will face Christian Brothers Academy Gordon Cup final (Feb. 27).
