Dave Brown's Wife Dies Of Aneurysm

(From Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, Thursday October 7, 2004)

EDMONTON - The wife of National Hockey League slugger and former Edmonton Oiler Dave Brown died Sunday from a brain aneurysm. She was only 42. "Dave was having dinner with his wife (Karen) when she collapsed. They rushed her to hospital and did surgery but her organs had shut down," said Glen Sather. Sather is the New York Rangers' general manager who employed Brown as one of his pro scouts after first trading for Brown when he was the Oiler GM in the late 1980s. Sather said she also suffered a heart attack. "It's very tragic," Sather said of Karen, who worked as a math professor. Brown played five seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers before he joined the Oilers, where he won a Stanley Cup ring in 1990.
